Mother of the Year?

I think I should be awarded Mother of the Year! Every Friday, my house is transformed for Dallas' Movie School. Not only are there dozens of kids squished into our tiny abode, but whole rooms take on totally new looks as they become the next 'set'! This week, I asked some of the kids if their parents (especially their moms) would allow this type of activity in their house and the reply was "No way!" This coming on the tail of the food that had just been thrown (on purpose!) in our living room, er rather, 'studio.' Well, maybe one day when Dallas has made the big one, we will all look back on his humble beginnings and smile :-). Really, I am smiling now, because it is fun and exciting to be involved with such creativity. If he can make great things happen in my lil' house, just think what he will be able to do when he has an actual studio!!Yes, this is (was?) my living room! He's really going to throw that?!Yep!

Caterpillars and Eggs

This year we are attempting to 'bring science to life' in our studies. Thus, we are observing the lifecycles of the butterfly and chickens! Here you can see Shalayne setting up her caterpillar environment.

And here she is with the two dozen eggs she is incubating.Candling an egg.

Proud of you, Dustin!

This past weekend was Commencement at Alberta Bible College, where Dustin has studied this year. Greg and I attended the Friday night banquet with Dustin. We were very proud to see our son receive the freshman Excellence in Reading Award! He was presented with a leather bound engraved bible by the Canadian Bible Society. Sunday afternoon the whole family attended the graduation ceremony and Dustin received his Certificate in Christian Foundations. This week he is off at Pine Lake Christian Camp training for his summer with Youth Alive in Christ. We are very proud of you, Dustin!

Love Languages

Have you ever thought you knew someone very well only to find out that wasn't the case? I've been reading The Five Love Languages of Teenagers and I surmised that I had my kid's love languages pegged. Well, I had them take the 'test' anyway, and lo and behold, Shalayne and Travis have completely different love languages than I thought! It's true, we are always learning about one another, and that is why I read books like this, that I might relate to my family better! Sometimes what I find out throws me for a loop!! Do you know your love language or that of those around you?

Snow Fun!

We've had much snow the past week causing some amount of cabin fever! But although the world around us is still very white, we know spring is a comin'! This morning our backyard trees were teeming with dozens of red-breasted robins. The buds are patiently waiting to burst, and under the blanket of snow the grass is green. This afternoon the sun peeked through and so the kids and I donned our winter gear and headed out to build a snowman.

Enterprising Endeavors

This was Travis' first biology dissection. He found it fascinating! Shalayne was not so sure!

Kazzie even finds technology interesting...

Dallas has been sewing up a storm! He is creating his own Belegarth costumes from scratch- even making his own patterns!

Holy Moses!

This year I led a musical with our homeschool group called Holy Moses! I was so proud of all the kids despite several technical glitches on performance night. They were brilliant! I couldn't have done this without Dallas' help (he directed the actors) and even Shalayne (she was in the musical but knew it so well that she saved her mom a few times!). These productions are a great amount of work, but so much fun. I do them so that my own kids can have the experience, but it is so rewarding to share with all these wonderful kids!!
